Production on a number of movies and television shows has been put on hold as a result of the widespread actor and screenwriter strike that has been going on in the US since the beginning of May. A list of affected programs is provided.

Large-scale protests have roiled the American entertainment industry since May 2. Nearly 11,500 members of the Screenwriters Guild of America (WGA) and more than 116,000 members of the Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) are now impacted by this strike. These people criticize the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), which represents the major Hollywood studios, and call for better consideration of low pay and streaming-related financial rewards.

However, it was reported that the major Hollywood studios wanted to prolong the strike until October and "let things drag on until the writers' union members start losing their apartments and jobs," according to a studio official who preferred to go nameless.

TV Shows:

Abbot Elementary's second season

It goes without saying that the writing for the upcoming season of the Disney+ series has been put on hold as of May 2.

2nd season of Andor

The Star Wars television series, which is now being filmed in Britain, has had a number of its staff members quit, including its creator and producer, Tony Gilroy.

Cobra Kai's sixth season

The Netflix series' last season is currently filming in California, albeit without the assistance of its authors.

Big Mouth, eighth season

After six weeks of production, the Netflix animated series' eighth and final season was put on hold. Undoubtedly, the release date will be delayed.

Daredevil : Born Again

Emily in Paris Season 4

The next season of the well-known Netflix series has not yet begun production, even though season 3 premiered in December 2022.

Severance Season 2

Filming for the upcoming season of the Apple TV+ series, which started in October 2022, was put on hold in early May and has not yet been picked back up.

Stranger Things Season 5

The Duffer Brothers said in a statement early in May that scripting continued while the show was being filmed but that Season 5 filming wouldn't start again until the strike was over.

Yellowjackets Season 3

Co-creator Ashley Lyle of the show, which is aired in France on Canal+, tweeted that writing on season 3 had been suspended after a full day of work. When the strike is over, work will start again.

The Movies:

Two Beetlejuice

When the actors' strike began, filming for the 1988 sequel, which would feature Michael Keaton and Jena Ortega, was almost complete in London.

In this Marvel superhero remake, Blade Trouble persists. The movie featuring Mahershala Ali just had its pre-production put on hold indefinitely after finding a new director. Its initial release date of February 2025 is not guaranteed to be kept.

Deadpool 3

The superhero movie, in which Hugh Jackman will reappear dressed as Wolverine (in yellow), had its production stop in Britain in the middle of July. Its planned release on May 1st, 2024, can be delayed.

Gladiator 2

The sequel to the 2000 cult classic, which Ridley Scott directed, has stopped filming in Morocco. The process was 65% finished. The movie, which is set for release in November 2024, stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, and Denzel Washington.

Lilo & Stitch

Filming for the live-action remake of the 2002 animated movie in Hawaii has been suspended, similar to what happened recently with The Little Mermaid. The movie was scheduled to wrap up production in August and debut on Disney+ the following year.


Filming on the video game adaptation, in which Jason Momoa plays the lead role, was scheduled to start in New Zealand in August. The SAG-AFTRA strike halted the flow of work.

Part 2 of Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning

The majority of the scenes for The Adventures of Ethan Hunt 2 were finished when filming was halted for the promotion of Part 1, which is presently in theaters and is scheduled to hit theaters in June 2024. There are certainly still a few sequences to shoot, and no one is sure when filming will pick up.

When the SAG-AFTRA strike broke out, Mortal Kombat 2, the follow-up to the fighting video game adaptation, started filming in Australia. Additionally, its manufacturing has been suspended.

Venom 3

On Monday, July 10, filming for Tom Hardy's third solo symbiote adventure was suspended. It is anticipated to be released in 2024.
