The first trailer for Hayao Miyazaki's next movie, "The Boy and the Heron," is gorgeous and poetic. the promise of yet another fantastic Studio Ghibli program.

Hayao Miyazaki's enormous animated films are responsible for Studio Ghibli's fame. The Japanese director is well-known throughout the world and is responsible for films like My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Princess Mononoke (1997), and Spirited Away (2001) that have inspired numerous generations of viewers to dream. His movies are considered cult classics because of the depth of his stories and stunning visuals. Therefore, it goes without saying that The Boy and the Heron, his most recent feature picture, is eagerly anticipated.

A first worldwide trailer for the movie is released; it is in Japanese with English subtitles. A video that combines several articles into one, allowing viewers to see more of the director's visual ideas. With a blend of realism and imagination, the latter clearly stayed true to his aesthetic. Intriguing views are also shown, such in this one where the body liquefies when it comes in contact with the hero's hand.

An outstanding trailer:

The 11-year-old Mahito will be followed in The Boy and the Heron as he leaves Tokyo to go back to the village where his mother was raised following the disappearance of his mother. He encounters a gray heron there who will take him on an excursion and explain the enigmatic surroundings to him. As a result, we are in for another incredibly poetic movie.

Keep in mind that the release of this trailer is unique. Studio Ghibli decided not to promote The Boy and the Heron prior to its debut in Japan so that moviegoers could watch it without any prior knowledge. Although a risky decision, it makes sense given Miyazaki's fame in Japan. Applying the same for other markets would certainly be more challenging if the author is also very well known internationally.

The Boy and the Heron was released in theaters in Japan by Toho on July 14, 2023. The film made its North American debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 7. After this, The Boy and the Heron will arrive in North American cinemas on December 8, 2023.
